THE MAPLE LEAF BALL, October 2003

This year, Canadians Abroad took on the daunting task of creating a new event for their membership called The Maple Leaf Ball. Along with the event an award, designed by famed Canadian artist GUYOL was also created and its first recipient was Mr. Monty Hall. The event, a black tie dinner dance, was held at the historically beautiful Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles, and that atmosphere contributed greatly to an enormously successful evening. The evening's menu was diligently created by board member Deborah Racine who also CO-chaired the event with our President, Clancy Grass. The Canadian Consulate fully supported the event by way of their own table, and the Honourable Colin Robertson and Maureen Boyd were seated at the President's table along with the honoree and his wife Marilyn. Proceeds of the event's silent auction went to Monty's favorite charity, Children's Variety of Southern California (Monty has raised in excess of 800 million dollars for them), and the success of the evening has certainly motivated holding the event on a continuing basis. More on this event will be seen in our forthcoming newsletter.
