Holiday Party
December 1998
If holiday cheer were bottled, you’d think that the group gathered at the Official Residence of the Canadian Consul on December 6th was drunk on the spirit of the day. An afternoon event, over 250 people showed up to celebrate the beginnning of holiday season. For many, it was a chance to see the lovely home of The Right Honourable Kim Campbell, but for everyone, it was an opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow Canadians. Unusually windy and cold for a Los Angeles afternoon, the “hardy” Canadians braved the outside temperatures for the entertainment provided by Pipers from Lord Strathcona's Horse who came from Edmonton. Two Air Canada round trip tickets, were won by member Reva Sober and the Roots Leather Jacket was won by member Gerry Farrell.
Many thanks to those who volunteered their time to
bake the fabulous desserts, as well to the Board members and individuals who
organized this fun event. Special thanks to Ms. Campbell and Hershey
Felder for the use of their home and to Air Canada, Roots, Kodak, Maclean’s
and Labatts for their donations to the raffle and door prizes.
CANADIANS FOR READING! Over $1000 was raised through the Holiday Party raffle and donated to ‘Newspapers In Education” which promotes literacy throughout Los Angeles County, using newspapers as living textbooks.
