Canada’s public producer and distributor, the National Film Board of Canada creates social-issue documentaries, auteur animation, alternative dramas and interactive works, that provide the world with a unique Canadian perspective. Since the NFB’s founding in 1939, it has created over 13,000 productions and won over 5,000 awards, including 4 Webbys, 12 Oscars and more than 90 Genies.
1) Canada Vignettes Compilation – Together for the first time on DVD, these 36 vintage gems are from the NFB Canada Vignettes series, which marked a whole generation of Canadians who grew up with them on television. Made in the late seventies and early eighties, these very short animated films and documentaries introduced us to different aspects of our country’s rich history and culture. Who can forget such classics as Faces, Delta Plane, Log Driver’s Waltz and Trading Post? These short films feature subtle humour and remain surprisingly fresh despite being over 30 years old. Make yourself comfortable as you take a trip down memory lane with quick lessons in Canadian history (Fort Prince of Wales, Bill Miner) and portraits of Canadian personalities (Roger Doucet, Stunt Family).
2) Animation Express II compilation - The NFB enriches the world of animation with unforgettable works through its collaboration with the most talented artists and artisans in a spirit of creativity and innovation. The Animation Express ii compilation presents the best from the 2009-2011 crop, created by filmmakers of diverse cultural origins, including such luminaries as Paul Drissen, Amanda Forbis, Wendy Tilby, Co Hoedeman, Georges Schwizgebel and Koji Yamamura. A selection of 21 films that will delight audiences by taking them into unexplored regions.
