Over the course of its decade-long existence, Broken Social Scene has become one of the most vital voices in independent music with an extensive, fluctuating lineup and exceptionally talented comprising members.

Forgiveness Rock Record is the group’s fourth full-band album and was born out of a desire to try something new. The band pared down its sprawling lineup to a more succinct roster including Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman, Sam Goldberg and Lisa Lobsinger and recorded for the first time in Chicago with the guidance of producer John McEntire of Tortoise. The resulting collection of songs is more cohesive and melody driven than previous BSS output but it still maintains the collective’s signature, expansive quality.
