Emotional and poignant, “The Fiddle and The Drum” explores the human spirit’s potential to create and destroy, to love and hate, to wage war and make peace. Mitchell’s unmatched penchant for melody, lyric and storytelling provides the perfect sonic accompaniment for this semi-abstract narrative performed by the exceptional dancers of the Alberta Ballet. Mitchell, a six-time Grammy winner, is also well known for her paintings, and her striking works are projected on three large screens behind the dancers.
